Paint Protection FAQ

What is "Paint Protection"?

Paint protection is a clear, thermoplastic urethane film that is applied to a vehicle to protect it from rocks, bugs and any other road debris that could damage the paint of your vehicle. Most often the film is applied to the front end of the vehicle, but can even cover the entire car for maximum protection.

What are the benefits of having paint protection on my vehicle?

The primary objective is about protecting your vehicle from the elements. While paint protection will not stop a large stone from damaging your vehicle, it will keep it protected from everyday, small debris you encounter. Paint protection is also an investment in your vehicle. Should the paint protection ever be removed, your paint beneath will look good as new if you ever decide to remove the film.

Are there any down sides to Paint Protection?

Most standard installations only cover the leading 18 inches of the hood & fenders. While this offers protection to primary impact areas, this will leave a slightly visible line across the hood and fenders. To most this is not an issue, to those that do find it unsightly we offer a full frontal install. This will cover the entirety of the front end of the vehicle giving the most protection as well as being next to invisible.

How do you maintain the Paint Protection after the install?

It is important to note that consistent maintenance is required to maintain the clarity and appearance of the film. Neglect can lead to dull or discolored film not covered by the manufacturers warranty. Soap and water is recommended for regular wash. Several notable companies offer cleaners specific to Paint protection and work incredibly well.

What film manufacturer do you use, and why?

Here at Car Optics we select the products we use based on our customers needs and consistently testing all the films available to find the film which best suits your needs. Currently our choice is VentureShield for our installs. Its ability to resist yellowing, and offer the highest level of abrasion resistance is unparalleled in the industry. VentureShield is the industry leading paint protection product.

What is the VentureShield Paint Protection warranty?

VentureShield Paint Protection Film will be free of defects in materials and manufacture — including yellowing, bubbling, or cracking — or five (5) years from date of purchase. This warranty does not apply to damage caused by misuse, accident, misapplication, or ordinary wear, nor does it apply to dents caused by physical impact of rocks or road debris.

Window Tinting FAQ

How much does it cost to tint my vehicle?

Price varies based on the size and difficulty of your vehicle. Call 215-203-2000 for a specific price quote. Sedans & coupes start at $180. SUVs & Vans start at $240. Matching two front doors to the factory rear of your SUV or truck is roughly $80.

Does the percentage or darkness I choose affect the cost?

No.

I have two front doors on an SUV or truck, and would like to match the rear. Is that possible?

Yes, it is done often. Typically 20% or 15% can be used to match the rear or you vehicle, depending on the make and model.

Are your rear windows one-piece?

Yes, all our rear windows are finished as one piece of film with no seams.

How do you cut your film?

All our film is cut on the computer to preserve quality and accuracy.

How long does it take?

Most vehicles take about one hour to tint. Two front doors will take about 20 minutes.

What is legal?

The law only prohibits tinting which prevents a person from seeing or viewing the inside of the vehicle. Here at Car Optics, we encourage the use of lighter shades of window tint, so as not to obstruct view of the occupants inside the vehicle.

Do I need an appointment?

Yes. Please call 215-203-2000 to schedule with us.

Complete Vehicle Wrap FAQ

What is vehicle wrap?

A wrap starts as a large piece of adhesive backed vinyl applied directly over the original paint of a vehicle. The application of the wrap allows you to change the vehicles appearance quickly and without damage to the paint. Wraps are available in a full color range from matte, satin or gloss, as well as chrome, or carbon fiber. The possibilities are endless.

How much of a vehicle will you wrap?

We can wrap anything you like. Exterior components including roofs, hoods, spoilers and so on, all the way up to a full vehicle wrap including inner door jambs and sills. We can do any combination of materials or colors you would like across the vehicle. Please contact us to discuss what you are looking for.

How much does a vehicle wrap cost?

Every vehicle and application is different. All our prices listed are a base quote, and do not include the inner door jambs, inner door frame and sills. Prices will vary depending on the vehicle type, surface complexity and film used. For a more accurate price, please contact us with more information about the wrap project you desire.

Does vehicle wrap damage your paint?

We do a thorough study of the vehicle to discuss any potential problem areas. Paint in poor condition or a re-painted vehicle may peel when the vinyl is removed. Otherwise, no. Proper installation and removal can leave your paint in a virtually brand new condition.

What is the warranty on a vehicle wrap?

The life span of your vehicle wrap really depends on how well the film is cared for, the daily stresses the wrap encounters from road driving, and the quality of the film used. Under normal conditions, the wrap will last between 3-5 years, and is backed by a manufacturers warranty.

What brand vinyl do you use?

Since we work with a diverse range of applications we install many of the leading manufacturers including 3M, Avery, Oracal, and Hexus. We choose the film that best suits our clients needs and specifications. You have something specific or unique you are looking for? We will find it for you.

How long does a vehicle wrap install take?

Small interior pieces or exterior components may only take as little as one hour. Larger, full exterior wraps or full color changes may be completed in 24 - 72 hours. Installation time will vary depending on the project and when it is scheduled. Please let us know what your time frame is, and we will factor it in when we set up your appointment.

Do I need to wash my vehicle before installation?

Yes. All Vehicles must be free of dirt, mud, and other contaminating agents that may prevent the vinyl from adhering the the vehicles surface. We, at Car Optics, alway do additional prep work to ensure the vehicle is ready for the vehicle wrap.

Why choose vinyl over paint?

There are pros and cons to both wrapping and painting your vehicle. In fact, a high quality paint job will cost just as much if not more than a high quality wrap. However, a wrap can be removed easily, and does not run the risk of the inconsistencies that come with a cheap paint job. Some wraps, especially matte finishes are more easily cared for than a matte paint finish. This can potentially increase the resale value to prospective buyers who plan on keeping the vehicle wrapped.
